This leads to a deterioration in air quality with increasing traffic volumes under otherwise identical conditions, especially in port cities, and has <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.intern.isl.org\/en\/press\/maritiem-a-project-for-greener-terminals\/\">local effects on the environment and human health<\/a>. Sustained or increasing environmental pollution from transports therefore requires prompt steps to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollutants. !toggleSize;\r\n\t\t}\r\n\t\t\r\n<\/script>\t\n\n\n\n<h2>Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <em>MaritIEm<\/em> research project<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:square\"><li>findings are being created in order to <strong>evalutate measures<\/strong> in the maritime transport chains on the basis of the results of emission and concentration calculations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"list-style-type:square\"><li>to <strong>reduce <\/strong>the air pollutants and climate gases emitted by the maritime transport chains.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An exemplary calculation and evaluation of the emission and concentration quantities and possible measures for reduction will be carried out within the project based on the <em><strong>ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Implementation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is methodically divided into the following <strong>four phases:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.intern.isl.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/EN3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-668\" width=\"315\" height=\"383\" according to transport means (sea and inland waterways, freight trains, trucks) and types of goods (containers, cars, bulks, general cargo, etc.), than mapped in a <em>source-destination matrix<\/em>. Based on this matrix and with the help of known points within the transport chain (e.g. transshipment points, berths, recipients \/ senders, etc.), the transport routes are determined in a model.<\/li><li>With the help of emission factors and other source group-specific data (topography, diesel class, type of shunting locomotives, power, tidal height, capacity utilisation, etc.), the relevant emissions for the respective transport means are quantified.<\/li><li>The modelling of air pollutant loads requires the consideration of total emission &#8211; both from freight transport and from other sources. Source group specific modelling allows the determination of the contribution of maritime transport chains.
